Conveyancing is the process of transferring ownership of the property from one person to another.
Your solicitor will start all the legal and administrative work which includes arranging Stamp Duty, contacting the Land Registry and transferring money.
It is at this point that you’ll agree the terms of sale which includes things like proving who you are, finalising the fixtures and fittings that are included in the sale and setting a date for exchanging contracts.
In England and Wales, the Exchange of Contracts is the last stage of the legal process after which you cannot pull out. If a buyer pulls out after this step they will lose their deposit and may face legal action. At this point a date for completion is usually set.
On completion day, you will be able to pick up the keys from the estate agent or seller and move in.
