This largely residential area of South London is rich in community spirit and friendly neighbourhood atmosphere. The success of West Norwood has been at the hands of its volunteers, who have helped reconnect older residents with young families starting to put down roots in the area. This summer promises to be one of the best yet, with the newly established West Norwood Feast, Lambeth County Show and a high street full of independent cafés and delicatessens setting up shop near the station.
West Norwood Feast – An easy way to introduce yourself to locals
Started just one year ago, the West Norwood Feast is fast becoming one of the most engaging community activities in the area. With an expanding younger demographic combined with the skills inherent in the community, its success has been driven by a deep passion in giving voices to locals of all ages and nationalities. The market is held on the first Sunday of every month and does everything from retro and vintage clothing, knick-knacks, gardening, workshops, and street food. Kids are also welcome, with free colouring-in, badge making, and face painting.

Lambeth County Show
Now in its 43rd year, The Lambeth Country Show returns to Brockwell Park this Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 July. Here are a couple of highlights:
Flower Zone – Learn in a friendly, social atmosphere with the experts from Royal Horticultural Society and Lambeth Horticultural Society.
Classical Music – Listen to the melodic sounds of the South London Saxophone Quartet and Tooting Clarinet Quartet.
Chocolate Museum – Established by a French artisan, the exhibition recalls the history of the cacao bean as far back as the Mayans and includes chocolate making activities to test those who call themselves chocolate connoisseurs.

Blackbird Bakery - Strictly traditional baking
'We make everything we sell’
This is not a bakery you’ll find kitchens full of big tubs of frosting or frozen ‘bake-off products’ from big national suppliers. It’s about keeping age old tradition and following recipes to a tee so when the chalkboard on the counter says ‘fresh’, you know it’s exactly that. With six shops across South London, Blackbird Bakery sell everything from pastries, cakes and breads to salads, juices and even dog biscuits.
