Family living in Enfield: Area guide for nursery and primary schools

It is no surprise that first time buyers in London are flocking to Enfield to buy a family home. With multiple parks, green spaces, rivers and high speed connections to Central London by train and motorway, this leafy suburb has also featured in Evening Standard’s Homes and Property ‘Where to find a home in London for less than £350k …’ last March. But what does Enfield offer in the way of nursery and primary schools? How do you decide which school to apply for? What are the Ofsted ratings? Here is your guide.

Primary schools in Enfield: What to know

In Enfield, whether community school, academy or voluntary aided schools, each has its own admission criteria. It’s best to familiarise yourself with information on the Enfield Council website where selection criteria is detailed for each school.

How do you decide which school to apply for?

The principle should be the same wherever you choose a home in London:

  • Visit the schools
  • Look at the school’s website and read their prospectus via the Ofsted website
  • How likely your child is to be offered a place at the school/s you are requesting
  • How your child will travel to school every day and how far it is from your home
  • Talk to your child about the decision

Nursery schools in Enfield: What to know

Like any nursery school application in London, the sooner you start looking the better. In general nursery school places are allocated by your highest preference. This includes:

  • Verifying that children are siblings, living at the same address and that the older child is expected to still be at the school nominated in September of that year
  • Measuring the distance from the home to the school for other applications

Your child will be offered a place at whichever nursery class is the highest preference for which they have qualified under the admissions criteria. For full details check out the Enfield Council website for a guide on Applying for a Nursery School in Enfield Information for Parents.

Enfield Council’s website has everything you need to familiarise yourself with the area, including a map of all schools in the borough, arranging school visits, application process and waiting list information.

When to apply for nursery and primary schools

Applying at the right time is essential as once applications have been processed it is unusual to have space given demand for places. So it is important to have everything ready by 14 January.
