With plans for 24,000 new homes, £6 billion worth of development, an airport expansion and a third financial district, how will the Royal Docks of the past be remembered by future generations? As part of London Festival of Architecture on 24 June, experts, locals and resident exhibitors Bow Arts are taking a reflective pit stop on the waterside site of Royal Albert Wharf complimented with tasty street food and music. Here is a snapshot of what you can expect to find at the Royal Albert Wharf Summer Celebration event.
Fire the Inventor – Be part of the future of the Royal Docks
Mechanical cranes have been the orchestrate of change in the past, present and future of the Royal Docks. Emerging artist Stephen Guy, popularly known as Fire the Inventor, is building a large mechanical sculpture in the appearance of a dockside crane that ‘animates the life and history of the docks’. Stephen invites adults and families to make their own smaller automata that link to the main mechanism. This is a great opportunity for future residents to feel part of the Royal Docks history during a time of great change in the surrounding area.
