There was a time when breakfast was considered the most important meal of the day. But in South West London, most locals are already at their morning yoga, Zumba or Pilates session sweating off an epic cocktail night, or getting some fresh air on one of Clapham Common’s stunning green spaces. So brunch or that odd, misplaced meal between breakfast and lunch was the natural progression to suit the hectic lifestyles of Londoners on the move. Here’s our top three breakfast and brunch spots all within a short jog from Clapham Road.
1. Brickwood Coffee and Bread
Just a 16 minute walk to 330 Clapham Road*
“Unique dishes designed for the ultimate lazy brunch” say the Brickwood team.
This popular café in South West London is a well-known fuelling stop for post-yoga and Pilates buffs in Clapham. The café takes inspiration from the burgeoning coffee culture of Australia and New Zealand, meaning they make a mean flat white served by laid back, bearded baristas and a no worries brunch time until 3pm. Queues can form so get there early or just take your food to the park.
2. Tart, Clapham
Just a 17 minute walk to 330 Clapham Road*
“Not a pie, not a quiche, just terribly tasty tarts” say the owners at Tart.
Chef and owner Jason takes ordinary brunch favourites and you guessed it, tarts them up. This is probably one of the more Moreish brunch spots on the list, where salads and poached eggs make way for tasty tarts, blueberry bakewell and Volcano flat whites. Specials include Tart Benedict, soft poached eggs, parma ham and a delicious hollandaise sauce.
3. No. 32
Just an 18 minute walk to 330 Clapham Road*
“From breakfast and brunch, to social snacks and Sunday roasts” say the No. 32 team
Rated No. 2 by The Resident in its ‘15 best for breakfast in Clapham and Battersea’ list’, it is rare to find a restaurant with great evening potential as well as top-notch breakfast and brunch. Positioned close to Clapham Common Station and the near side of Clapham Old Town, the food menu is varied, the coffee is fresh and the park is close by to work off those delicious blueberry pancakes.
330 Clapham Road – Make it your own
The much anticipated 330 Clapham Road is a superb collection of one and two bedroom apartments, two bedroom duplexes and spacious three and four bedroom townhouses. 330 Clapham Road is a rare opportunity to make one of the most popular areas of south-west London your own home.
